Dr. Maria Pesheva is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. She is a fellowship-trained Ophthalmologist with two subspecialties, having attended two of the best fellowship training programs in North America.
About Dr. Pesheva
Dr. Pesheva completed her Pediatric Ophthalmology fellowship at the prestigious Wilmer Eye Institute at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, which has been consistently ranked as a number one eye institute in the country. She underwent extensive training with well-known world authorities in Pediatric Ophthalmology and eye muscle surgery. Dr Pesheva then pursued additional fellowship training in Cornea Surgery, External Eye Diseases and Refractive Surgery at the reputable Shiley Eye Center at the University of California, San Diego. There she expanded her training and gained expertise in infectious, traumatic and congenital corneal and anterior segment diseases in both children and adults. She became proficient in the latest techniques of corneal transplantation and refractive surgery.
Dr Pesheva completed her Ophthalmology residency training at Louisiana State University in Shreveport, after performing ophthalmic research in Dallas, Texas with an internationally known expert in infant and children vision development. She grew up in Bulgaria, Eastern Europe, where she received her medical degree at the Medical University of Pleven.
Dr Pesheva has participated and presented at a number of ophthalmic scientific conferences, and has established personal contacts with the most prominent ophthalmologists in her field. She has recently volunteered at surgical missions in underdeveloped countries.
